Ep 38 | Stocking Your Consult Bag Lactation Business Coaching with Annie and Leah

This episode of Lactation Business Coaching with Annie and Leah is called “Stocking Your Consult Bag.” The episode was recorded prior to the COVID-19 outbreak, and things have changed since then, but as home visits will always be a part of the lactation private practice landscape this episode was deemed worth running. They talk about how they have gotten to the current consult bag they are using, ways to try and keep track of what you have available, and restocking of supplies as you run low. They even dive into why accepting free samples that you put into your consult bag to give to clients, might be putting you into an unethical situation.

Annie and Leah talk about their own home visit consult bags and how they have greatly shifted throughout the years to what they have now. They talk about how each of their vastly different commutes impact the style of bag they can really have. They each share with us their systems for how they keep important items restocked and ready so they don’t have to go without.

Annie shares with us some helpful resources for IBCLC’s, about the legal and ethical side of accepting free samples from companies that we might end up giving away to our clients. Annie and Leah also share motivational and tech tips with us about how we can better care for ourselves throughout the day.

QUOTES

08:34 “And we’re always trying to find places that we’re going to store these bags that I have that I won’t let go because they may be a consult bag, someday they may turn into the perfect consult bag.”

09:48 “Then the other thing is like how much walking around are you going to have to do? Because then you can’t, you both have to have a bag that works really well for walking long distances, but then you also can’t overstock it.”

13:52 “And just having it as a reminder is so helpful because it’s definitely not top on my list until the thing is not there. So having it as just a set thing in my phone that, and then we get a text. It’s so nice to have that as a reminder.”

16:14 “So you do have to make that decision. Is it a business expense or is it something that you’re selling? And if you’re selling it, you need to be following the law about it.”

19:39 “And we like to think that we’re not influenced by those kinds of things, but we are. Just assume that you are and put steps in place to prevent it from happening and really keep yourself free of that conflict of interest.“
